Valencia’s reset is spreading beyond the touchline, with the club reshaping its sporting and medical departments as it seeks a route away from the LaLiga relegation places. Javier Aguirre is expected to arrive in Mestalla during the international break, though his appointment has yet to be formally confirmed.
The Mexican coach is set to replace Carlos Corberán, whose departure forms part of a broader overhaul after Valencia’s Matchday 5 defeat to Sevilla on Friday, September 11. Ron Gourlay has also left his role as CEO of football, alongside several members of his working group.

The latest exit comes from the club’s medical structure. Valencia confirmed on Tuesday the departure of Pedro López Mateu, who had led the medical services department since November 2019.
López Mateu’s remit reached beyond the men’s first team. He was responsible for medical support across the men’s and women’s senior squads as well as the VCF Academy.
Valencia thanked him for his commitment and professionalism over his years at the club, while adding that a new structure for the medical department will be announced shortly.
The international break gives the side time to settle before football resumes. It is expected to provide Aguirre and his staff with an opportunity to meet the squad and begin work before their first competitive assignment.
Valencia are due to travel to Racing de Santander on Sunday, October 11, with kick-off listed for 13:00 central Mexico time. The expectation is that Aguirre will be in charge by then, after Sánchez stepped in on an interim basis.
