Week 5 Fantasy Matchups: Jared Goff, Michael Wilson in Favorable Spots

Detroit’s trip to Arizona shapes up as one of Week 5’s most fantasy-friendly environments, with Jared Goff and Cardinals receiver Michael Wilson positioned to benefit from a matchup that has repeatedly produced passing volume and points.

Week 5 matchup outlook

The schedule-adjusted matchup ratings compare each defense’s performance against positional opponents after accounting for the offenses it has faced. A positive Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed figure indicates a favorable opponent for that position, while a negative mark points to a more difficult draw.

Week 5 uses the available 2026 season sample. Once five games have been played, the evaluation will shift to the most recent five-week span. Matchup data is only one factor in lineup decisions, alongside role, opportunity, health and expected game script.

Quarterbacks

Goff draws Arizona in a game carrying a 54.5-point total. Detroit has played in four of the season’s nine highest projected-total games, and each has cleared the number. The Lions rank fourth in pass attempts while permitting the second-most passing plays, creating a setting that could produce late-game yardage as both offenses keep throwing.

  1. Arizona has allowed 67.28 fantasy points on passing plays to Drew Lock, Brock Purdy and Jameis Winston over the last three weeks.
  2. Jacoby Brissett, facing Detroit, is also in a favorable spot.
  3. Matthew Stafford gets Buffalo on Monday Night Football.

Purdy faces a substantially harder assignment in Seattle. Aside from a 33-31 home loss to Marcus Mariota and Washington, the Seahawks have caused major issues for opposing quarterbacks. Drake Maye, Brissett and Justin Herbert were all held below 10 fantasy points, while Seattle forced seven turnovers across those matchups.

Purdy also had trouble with the Seahawks last season, totaling 21.96 fantasy points in two meetings and turning the ball over three times.

Running backs

D’Andre Swift could be in line for additional work when Chicago visits Green Bay. Kyle Monangai’s Week 4 breakout complicated the Bears’ backfield picture, but his thumb injury could push more touches back toward Swift, at least for this week.

Green Bay has been one of the league’s most generous defenses to running backs, giving up 29.0 fantasy points per game, 0.80 points per rush and 2.12 points per target. Much of that production came before linebacker Edgerrin Cooper suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in Week 4.

  • Quinshon Judkins, Cleveland Browns, at the New York Jets
  • Emanuel Wilson, Seattle Seahawks, versus San Francisco
  • David Montgomery, Houston Texans, at Tennessee

James Cook III’s role remains secure for Buffalo, but the Rams make touchdowns harder to project. Cook ranks 11th among running backs with a 68% snap share and is 10th with 64% of his team’s rushing share.

The Bills have called nine rushing plays inside an opponent’s 3-yard line, but Josh Allen has handled six of them and scored on all six. Los Angeles has not allowed a running back touchdown this season and has yet to surrender a 15-point fantasy game to the position.

Wide receivers

Wilson has emerged as a major part of Arizona’s passing game ahead of the Lions matchup. Detroit has surrendered 44.0 fantasy points per game to wide receivers, the league’s second-highest rate, along with a +7.8 adjusted figure and 2.12 points per target.

Top opposing receivers have done particular damage against Detroit. Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson and Tetairoa McMillan averaged 14 targets and 33.4 fantasy points in their games against the Lions. Cardinals tight end Trey McBride is also positioned well, but Michael Wilson’s workload gives him a strong case of his own: he is sixth in the NFL with a 29% target share and fifth with eight red-zone targets.

  • Carnell Tate, Tennessee Titans, versus Houston
  • Jameson Williams, Detroit Lions, at Arizona
  • Dontayvion Wicks, Philadelphia Eagles, at Jacksonville in London at 9:30 a.m. ET Sunday

Christian Watson enters Green Bay’s game against Chicago as the No. 5 fantasy wide receiver, ranking sixth in yards after catch per reception at 6.5 and fourth with seven red-zone targets. The Bears’ recent work against the position, however, presents a warning.

Over the past three weeks, Chicago has limited Justin Jefferson, DeVonta Smith and Garrett Wilson to averages of 22.3 routes, six targets and 8.9 fantasy points.

Tight ends

Isaiah Likely has an inviting matchup when the New York Giants visit Washington. The Commanders have again struggled against the pass after finishing 29th against tight ends in 2025 with a +3.5 adjusted mark.

  1. Washington has allowed a league-high 2.93 fantasy points per target to tight ends.
  2. Dallas Goedert, Jake Ferguson, AJ Barner and Tyler Warren averaged only 5.8 targets against the Commanders.
  3. That group still produced an average of 16.3 fantasy points per game, placing Likely among the strongest Week 5 options at the position.

Dalton Kincaid has encountered difficult coverage recently and gets another challenging opponent in the Rams. His past two games came against the top-ranked Los Angeles Chargers and third-ranked New England defenses in the schedule-adjusted tight end ratings, contributing to a combined five targets and 5.5 fantasy points.

Los Angeles ranks fourth toughest against tight ends and has allowed only 0.91 fantasy points per target to the position, the lowest rate in the league.
