A three-digit post was enough to reopen one of English football’s biggest off-pitch stories. Zohran Kwame Mamdani, New York’s mayor and a lifelong Arsenal supporter, posted simply “114” on X after Manchester City were reported to have been found guilty of 114 of 115 financial-rule charges.
The brief message was a pointed nod towards Arsenal’s recent Premier League title rival. City are still waiting to learn the punishment attached to the reported verdict and are expected to challenge the decision through an appeal.

Mamdani’s message needed little explanation for followers of the Premier League, particularly Arsenal fans. The Gunners and City have been direct competitors in the title race across recent seasons, adding another edge to the mayor’s reaction.
The Democratic politician has supported Arsenal since childhood, having been introduced to the club by his uncle. His attachment to the north London side has remained visible despite his political career in the United States.
During the summer, Mamdani was presented with an Arsenal shirt signed by Pascal Cygan, one of his favourite former players, at his residence. The French defender made 98 appearances for the club between 2002 and 2006.
For now, City’s focus will turn to the expected appeal process and the scale of any eventual sanction. Mamdani, meanwhile, made his own position clear in the space of three characters.
