The final whistle had long gone, but the cost of Turin’s derby is still being counted. Italian police have imposed restrictive measures on 22 supporters following the disorder that delayed Torino’s 2-2 draw with Juventus on 24 May.
Measures follow May derby violence
- The Serie A meeting, played on the final day of last season, was held up before kick-off after clashes involving supporters of Torino and Juventus near Turin’s Stadio Olimpico.
- Investigators identified alleged incidents involving stones, bottles and explosive devices during the unrest.
- Nine police officers were injured in the disturbances.
- A 36-year-old Juventus supporter also suffered a serious head injury after being struck by a tear-gas grenade.
- Police have now acted against 22 people linked to ultra groups from both clubs, imposing preventive restrictions.
Restrictions and stadium bans
Those subject to the new measures may be barred from entering or remaining in Turin, while others will have to report regularly to local authorities.
A further 20 people accused in connection with the disorder have received stadium bans. The sanctions arrive months after a derby which ended level on the pitch but left a far more damaging story around the ground.
