AC Boulogne-Billancourt U16s Relive Devastating 8-0 Defeat in La Bascule

For the AC Boulogne-Billancourt under-16s, the season was meant to be about the first steps towards a professional future. Instead, one afternoon against Évry left the squad and its coaches trying to make sense of an 8-0 defeat.

The Paris-region club, regarded as one of the strongest development sides in Île-de-France, is followed across a full campaign in the video series La Bascule. It captures both the ambitions of teenagers hoping to earn professional contracts and the harsher moments that can shape a young team.

The crushing loss came at a difficult time for ACBB. Launys, the side’s leading striker, had abruptly departed to join Nanterre before the meeting with Évry, one of the championship’s leading contenders. Without him, Boulogne-Billancourt were overwhelmed as the goals kept coming at only one end.

Peter, one of the coaches, described the result as among the most traumatic matches he had experienced. “I have been involved in football continuously for 16 years and I had never seen a game like that,” he said.

Head coach Hedi was equally shaken. He remained at the ground for three hours after the final whistle, even as other matches were being played and people attempted to speak with him. “I do not know what they were telling me. I cannot even remember the match any more. It was a complete blank,” he recalled.

The weeks that followed brought another challenge: rebuilding belief in a group wounded by the scale of the defeat. Hedi had to find a way to lift his players again, while making decisions that would not always be easy for the young squad to accept.
