In Riyadh, where João Félix has rediscovered both rhythm and relevance alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Al Nassr are weighing the contractual route to keep the Portugal forward beyond 2027.
The 26-year-old has strengthened his case on the international stage, scoring in three of Portugal’s past four matches. That run has followed a revival in Saudi Arabia after a career that began with such promise at Benfica but did not meet expectations across spells at Atlético Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona and Milan.
Félix has also made clear that a return to European football is an ambition, putting his wishes at the centre of discussions over his next move despite Al Nassr holding a potential mechanism to prolong his stay.
Al Nassr hold extension option
- Félix signed his Al Nassr contract in July 2025, with the present agreement due to end in the summer of 2027.
- The contract includes an extension clause that Al Nassr can activate without requiring a new signature or fresh approval from the player.
- That right depends on the club meeting the conditions already set out in the deal, including the length of the proposed extension, financial compensation and the deadline for triggering the option.
- The player’s consent to the clause was included when the original contract was signed, meaning no further agreement is needed if the contractual and legal requirements are fulfilled.
Meeting planned with Jorge Mendes
Al Nassr officials are expected to meet Jorge Mendes, Félix’s representative, to discuss how the extension provision could be put into effect.
The conversation will not be limited to the legal mechanics. The Saudi club also intend to establish Félix’s position on remaining in Riyadh, recognising that his preference will carry weight even though they possess the contractual option.
Al Nassr hope the meeting will provide a clear understanding on the forward’s continuity before making their final decision. For Félix, renewed Portugal form and his stated desire for Europe have reopened a market that appeared to have drifted away from him after several uneven stops across the continent.
