Atlético Madrid return from the three-week international break with a LaLiga meeting at Alavés on Saturday, 10 October, a domestic fixture that will shape the immediate rhythm of two clubs beginning the weekend in the upper reaches of the table.
What the night decided
Nothing has been settled yet: Alavés and Atlético meet in the eighth round at Mendizorroza, with kick-off scheduled for 16:15.
Quique Sánchez Flores’s Alavés are sixth on 11 points. They sit two points behind Sevilla, while Deportivo and Real Sociedad are each one point below them.
Atlético, coached by Diego Simeone, travel second with 16 points. They are level with Betis, one point ahead of Real Madrid and five adrift of leaders Barcelona.
The historical record favours the visitors. Across 35 meetings between the clubs, Atlético have won 19 times, Alavés have claimed nine victories and seven matches have finished level.
Team news from Mendizorroza
Alavés will be without Koski after he returned from international duty injured. Garcés is suspended, while Mikel Rodríguez is also unavailable through injury.
For Atlético, Grimaldo is expected to be fit enough to return to Simeone’s starting line-up.
The next test after the break
The match will be shown in Spain on Movistar Plus+, Movistar LaLiga HDR and LaLiga TV Bar, with the international break ending in a demanding afternoon for both sides as Atlético seek to hold their place near the summit and Alavés aim to protect their position in the top six.
