Stockholm’s early autumn international window has brought Sweden three points and an immediate concern. Alexander Isak, scorer in the opening Nations League win over Romania, has been released from the squad with a minor injury and will return to Liverpool before the remainder of the group fixtures.
The Swedish Football Association confirmed on Sunday that Isak will miss matches against Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Romania. Burnley defender Hjalmar Ekdal has also left the camp because of a minor fitness issue, reducing the options available to Sweden as the 2026/27 Nations League campaign moves on.
No further information was given about Isak’s condition. The forward nevertheless completed the full match on Friday, when Sweden began Group H with a 2-1 home victory over Romania.
A useful start in Group H
Isak put Sweden ahead against the Romanians before Dennis Man restored parity. Viktor Gyokeres then supplied the deciding goal, giving the hosts the result that has placed them first in the section after the opening round.
Sweden lead Group H on three points. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Poland each have one point, while Romania remain bottom without a point. The coming fixtures will now be played without Isak, whose departure sends him back to Liverpool while Sweden try to preserve their early advantage across a demanding international schedule.
