Alphonso Davies is beginning to give Bayern Munich a familiar option again. After an 18-month spell shaped by a cruciate ligament tear, further muscle problems and a curtailed World Cup, the Canada captain has shown sharper pace and greater influence in his first six competitive appearances of the new campaign.

Davies tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while playing for Canada in March 2025. He was out until shortly before Christmas, then struggled to build continuity. His 2025/26 Bundesliga record reflected that stop-start year. Davies completed only one league match, the 2-2 draw in Hamburg. Vincent Kompany is likely to continue regulating the full-back’s workload. Brown remains an elite prospect behind him, while Hiroki Ito can also cover at left-back. The Japanese defender is currently third in that position and fourth among Bayern’s centre-back options. For Davies, the immediate task is simpler: stay available long enough for the old rhythm to return.
