Atalanta’s European campaign begins in Bergamo with Pafos arriving for a Conference League meeting that sits at the start of a demanding week for Maurizio Sarri’s side.
A European evening before Milan
The home fixture comes shortly after Monday’s league win over Venezia, a match in which Gianluca Scamacca remained among the substitutes. Sarri is managing his squad’s resources across a crowded schedule, with the Serie A appointment against Milan also approaching.
- Atalanta defeated Venezia on Monday, with Scamacca unused from the bench.
- The Bergamo club now opens its Conference League programme against Cypriot opponents Pafos.
- Sarri must then prepare his team for the forthcoming league match with Milan.
There is also a fitness question around Giorgio Scalvini, whose condition will need to be assessed before the European tie.
Pafos bring a disciplined recent record
Pafos arrive in Italy sitting fourth in the Cypriot championship. Their first five league matches have brought 10 points: three wins, one draw and one defeat.
Ricardo Sá Pinto’s team have also been difficult to break down in recent weeks. Across their last five matches in all competitions, Pafos have conceded only three goals, giving Atalanta a visiting side with both European ambition and a recent defensive consistency.
How to watch
Atalanta v Pafos will be shown live on Sky Sport channels. The match can also be streamed through Sky Go and NOW on smartphones, tablets and computers.
