In Valencia, where a difficult season has made every decision feel heavier, Javier Aguirre has received a warm vote of confidence from a former player who knows both the club and the demands of Spanish football. Andrés Guardado believes Valencia have turned to the right coach for the task ahead.
The former Mexico midfielder, who spent two seasons at Valencia from 2012 to 2014, sent his best wishes to Aguirre after his appointment as the club’s new head coach. Guardado pointed to the vast experience accumulated by his compatriot, particularly in pressured circumstances, as a reason for optimism around Mestalla.
“I think the people of Valencia and Valencia supporters will be very happy with your work,” Guardado said. “You have been through situations like this many times. For the position the club are in, they could not have chosen a better coach.”
A familiar figure for Spanish football
Guardado’s message reflected Aguirre’s long-standing knowledge of the Spanish game and the particular responsibility that comes with leading a top-flight club. The former midfielder said Valencia’s supporters should recognise themselves in Aguirre’s approach to work, adding that the coach has the experience to understand what is required.
“You will surely do very well,” Guardado added. “You have enormous experience, you know what needs to be done, and I am certain the fans will connect with the way you work.”
He also extended an affectionate greeting to Valencia sporting director Braulio Vázquez, describing him as a friend. Guardado recalled Vázquez’s previous work at both Valencia and Osasuna, and expressed confidence that the sporting director and Aguirre can steer the current project through its demanding moment.
“I wish them every success,” Guardado said. “They know where they are, and they will surely take this project forward.”
