While much of Europe was quiet for the international break, former French internationals and familiar Bundesliga figures were lighting up an extraordinary MLS night across the Atlantic.
Antoine Griezmann again made a decisive contribution for Orlando, setting up a goal against Philadelphia, but his side were beaten 4-2. The French forward, who joined the club in July, now has nine goals and four assists from only 15 appearances.
It was a frustrating result for Griezmann despite another productive display, while elsewhere in the 28th round the drama barely paused.
Müller involved at both ends for Vancouver
Thomas Müller supplied an assist and then scored himself as Vancouver drew 3-3 with DC United. The German’s double contribution helped Vancouver take a point from a game that became one of the weekend’s most open contests.
Marco Reus’ Los Angeles Galaxy produced an even sharper turnaround at home to Colorado Rapids. Two goals down at half-time, Galaxy recovered to win 3-2.
Austin rescue a point from three goals down
Austin saved their wildest twist for late in the match against San Diego. The Texas side were trailing by three with 20 minutes left, but struck three times in a 13-minute spell to force an unlikely draw.
For Griezmann, the numbers continue to underline his fast start in the United States, even if Orlando’s latest outing ended in defeat. Across MLS, a night that began during the international break finished with goals, comebacks and European stars still deciding games.
