In western Greece, Olympiacos collected a controlled 2-0 away win over Panetolikos, but Armando “Hormiga” González again had to wait until the closing stages for his chance. The Mexican forward entered in the 80th minute, with the Piraeus side already two goals ahead, and was unable to add to the score in his brief appearance.
Olympiacos settle the contest before González arrives
The visitors had built their advantage long before González was introduced. Joel Roca opened the scoring in the 17th minute, and Chiquinho made the result safe with a second goal in the 73rd.
- Joel Roca put Olympiacos ahead after 17 minutes.
- Chiquinho extended the lead in the 73rd minute.
- González came on in the 80th minute, receiving around 10 minutes on the pitch.
- Olympiacos left with all three points after a 2-0 victory.
There was little time for the Mexican attacker to influence a match already under Olympiacos control. He did not score during his late spell in the forward line.
Questions over the Mexican forward’s role
The limited outing renews attention on González’s place in the Greek club’s plans. Having been held back until the final stretch against Panetolikos, he has had fewer opportunities to settle into the competitive rhythm and show his qualities over longer periods.
His early European record remains productive: González has played nine matches for Olympiacos, scoring four goals and providing two assists. That return makes his recent reduction in minutes particularly notable, after he had responded effectively when used.
Prague test offers the next opportunity
Olympiacos now turn towards the Europa League and a meeting with Sparta Prague. González is expected to return to the starting line-up for that continental fixture, where a stronger contribution could help his case for a more prominent role in the weeks ahead.
