Flamengo pair shape Uruguay’s four-goal night
Núñez opened the scoring in the 13th minute after being supplied by Arrascaeta. The Flamengo playmaker then doubled the advantage on 27 minutes, finding the net with a long-range effort.
Varela added Uruguay’s third before half-time. The right-back surged forward down the flank, entered the penalty area and finished for his first goal in Uruguay colours.
The combination continued after the interval as Varela delivered a cross for Núñez to complete his brace and Uruguay’s fourth goal of the match.
Arrascaeta forced off after wrist problem
The evening turned concerning for Flamengo when Arrascaeta required treatment during the second half. He was unable to continue and was replaced by Rodrigo Salazar in the 77th minute.
The midfielder appeared to be in considerable discomfort as he left the field, with pain reported in his wrist. No further detail on the extent of the problem was confirmed during the match.
