Arsenal return to the Emirates Stadium looking to turn an encouraging opening result into early control of their Champions League league-phase campaign, while Lille arrive in London needing their first points after a difficult start.
Arsenal seek to build on Naples win
Mikel Arteta’s side began their European campaign with a 1-0 victory away to Napoli, a result that has given the London club a solid platform before the second matchday.
With home advantage against Lille, Arsenal will aim to add another three points and strengthen their position in the competition’s league phase. The Emirates meeting offers Arteta’s team the chance to extend a positive start against opponents still searching for a response.
Lille arrive under pressure
- Lille opened their Champions League campaign with a 3-2 defeat against Real Betis.
- Bruno Génésio’s French side travel to north London without a point from their first European fixture.
- The visitors will try to produce an upset at the Emirates and begin their recovery in the league phase.
Lille face one of the competition’s more demanding assignments, and will need to take their chances if they are to leave London with a positive result. For Arsenal, meanwhile, the night is an opportunity to make their domestic surroundings count in a campaign where early momentum can shape the weeks ahead.
