Atalanta and Frosinone Share Thrilling 4-4 Draw in Serie A

Atalanta and Frosinone produced the most unsettled of Sunday afternoons at the New Balance Arena, drawing 4-4 in Serie A’s eighth round after each side had led and neither had found a way to close the game. Atalanta twice appeared to have regained control, but Frosinone’s response, completed by Aleksa Terzic eight minutes from time, ensured the points were shared.

The match, played on Sunday 25 October 2026, began with Frosinone immediately upsetting the home side’s plans. Romano Schmid scored in the first minute from the middle of the penalty area, giving the visitors an early advantage and setting the tone for a contest in which Atalanta were repeatedly required to recover.

Frosinone strike first, Atalanta answer

Atalanta found their first reply in the 14th minute. Nikola Krstovic finished a counter-attack, with Charles De Ketelaere providing the final pass, to make it 1-1. The equaliser did not bring calm to the match, however.

Frosinone continued to threaten through Farès Ghedjemis, who was involved in much of their forward work. He created Schmid’s second goal in the 17th minute, the midfielder finishing low into the left corner to restore the visitors’ lead.

Atalanta had chances through De Ketelaere, Éderson and Jonathan Rowe, while Krstovic also went close from crosses and set pieces. Their route back into the game came after a VAR review in the 29th minute, when Giorgio Cittadini was penalised for handball in the area. Éderson converted the resulting penalty four minutes later, placing his effort low to the goalkeeper’s left.

Raoul Bellanova had to leave the pitch through injury shortly before the penalty, with Lorenzo Bernasconi introduced in his place. Atalanta nevertheless finished the half strongly and went ahead for the first time in the 45th minute: Davide Zappacosta crossed for Krstovic, who scored his second of the afternoon. The hosts went into the interval 3-2 ahead.

A second-half exchange with no final winner

Frosinone made a change at half-time, bringing Terzic on for Gabriele Bracaglia, but they did not wait long to level the score. Giacomo Calò completed another move involving Ghedjemis in the 48th minute, steering a low finish inside the left post.

Atalanta responded almost immediately. Krstovic turned provider for Eljif Elmas, who struck from the centre of the area into the top-left corner in the 50th minute. At 4-3, the home side again had the advantage, and introduced Nicola Zalewski and Mario Pasalic shortly after the hour.

Frosinone, though, kept asking questions. Romano Schmid, Ghedjemis and Giorgio Cittadini all tested Marco Carnesecchi or drew defensive interventions, while Kvernadze missed from a central position. The visitors also refreshed their side with Matteo Cichella and Alessio Zerbin, followed by Ilario Monterisi.

Atalanta brought on Gianluca Scamacca and Lazar Samardzic for Krstovic and De Ketelaere in the 77th minute, but the final phase belonged largely to Frosinone. Terzic first saw attempts blocked, then met Ghedjemis’ assist in the 82nd minute and drove a left-footed shot low into the left corner for 4-4.

Frosinone push until the last whistle

Rather than settle for the point, Frosinone continued to press during the closing minutes. Terzic fired narrowly over, while Enzo Tchato and Ghedjemis each forced late saves after Tchato had replaced Anthony Oyono. Ghedjemis’ final effort in stoppage time was stopped low, preserving the draw.

There were bookings for Frosinone’s Bracaglia, Giorgi Kvernadze, Terzic and Antonio Raimondo, while Éderson was cautioned for Atalanta. The afternoon also included a brief stoppage for a Frosinone injury to Lorenzo Palmisani.

For Atalanta, four goals and Krstovic’s two-goal contribution offered plenty of attacking return, yet the inability to protect two separate leads left the match with an unfinished feeling. Frosinone, having fallen behind before twice restoring parity, left Bergamo with a point earned through persistence and a forward line that repeatedly found a route back into the contest.
