Robin Le Normand has been handed a late route back into the Spain squad, with the Atlético Madrid defender called up after Barcelona’s Eric Garcia withdrew through injury.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente had initially left Le Normand out for this international window, but turned to the 29-year-old following Garcia’s departure from the camp. The Barcelona defender underwent checks on a problem in his left knee and was released to avoid aggravating the injury.
For Le Normand, it ends an international absence that had stretched back to October 2025. The defender, who has won 27 caps, was part of Spain’s Euro 2024-winning side but was not selected for the most recent World Cup.
Three Nations League fixtures ahead
Spain face a demanding sequence of Nations League matches in the coming days, beginning with Croatia in Seville on Tuesday. They will then meet the Czech Republic on 3 October before travelling to Split for another game against Croatia on 6 October.
Le Normand now joins the European champions’ defensive options for that run, replacing Garcia as Spain prepare for three matches in quick succession.
