Frankfurt’s academy has become the latest stop on the European scouting circuit, with 15-year-old attacking midfielder Niko Ilicevic attracting interest well beyond the Main. Barcelona are among the clubs monitoring the Eintracht Frankfurt prospect, while Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Inter Milan are also following his progress.
Ilicevic is a Germany youth international and has impressed through Eintracht’s junior sides, where his performances have brought him onto the radar of several of the continent’s biggest institutions. The attention comes before he has reached the age at which a first professional agreement can be completed.
Eintracht, however, hold a strong contractual position. The teenager is tied to the Frankfurt club until 30 June 2029, and the club are working to extend his stay further. Their proposed route is clear: offer a quicker path from the academy towards Bundesliga first-team football.
A professional step in October
Ilicevic turns 16 on 31 October, opening the way for Eintracht to put a professional contract in place. The club’s intention is for the Germany Under-17 player to sign that deal before the end of the month, bringing the prospect of senior involvement closer.
For Frankfurt, it is a familiar challenge in the modern academy game: keeping a gifted local development product while Europe’s elite clubs begin to watch. A first-team opportunity at Deutsche Bank Park could become the decisive part of their effort to retain Ilicevic beyond his current agreement.
