Barcelona Match Real Madrid’s Nine-Win LaLiga Start with Betis Rout

Seville offered Barcelona another difficult stop on Saturday, yet the Catalan side left Andalusia with a 5-2 victory over Betis and a place beside one of Spanish football’s oldest opening-season landmarks. Hansi Flick’s team have now won each of their first nine LaLiga matches of 2026/27, matching the Real Madrid side of 1968/69 as the only clubs to begin a league campaign with nine straight wins.

Barcelona’s next appointment gives the statistic an immediate edge. Real Madrid visit Camp Nou next Sunday, the 25th, and a home win would take Barça alone into the record books with 10 victories from the first 10 league rounds. Madrid’s 1968/69 team were held in their tenth fixture, leaving Flick’s side with the chance to go one better in the season’s first Clásico.

The numbers behind the start are emphatic. Barcelona have played 11 matches in all competitions and won all 11, scoring 48 goals at an average of 4.36 per game. Only once this season have they failed to score at least three times. Their league total of 27 points puts them five clear of Atlético Madrid in second.

Betis remain third despite the defeat, on 19 points. Real Madrid, who were due to face Sevilla on Sunday, sat fourth with 18 before that match.

Returns add to Flick’s options

The trip to Betis also brought welcome selection news for Barcelona. Raphinha returned after missing the previous two matches through injury, restoring the side’s leading scorer. The Brazilian has 14 goals and three assists in nine appearances this term.

Frenkie de Jong was back as well, making his first appearance since May after a serious injury absence. Meanwhile, 19-year-old Lamine Yamal continues to grow into one of the team’s principal creative and attacking figures, with nine goals and 10 assists across Barcelona’s 11 games.

Before the Camp Nou meeting with Madrid, Barcelona face another defining evening in Europe. Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning two-time Champions League winners, await in the competition next week. The visits of PSG and Real Madrid will test whether the extraordinary early rhythm established from Seville to Catalonia can carry through the most demanding stretch of the autumn.
