Barcelona’s long return home is set to include another departure. With the Camp Nou rebuild still unfinished, the club are preparing for a temporary move back to Montjuïc during the first half of the 2027-28 season, while a fresh €510 million borrowing package has pushed its financial exposure beyond €2 billion.
A second temporary exit from Camp Nou
The Catalan club are expected to leave their historic stadium again in 2027 so that construction on the wider redevelopment can be completed. The planned relocation would cover the opening months of the following campaign, with Barcelona returning to the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys at Montjuïc.
It would mark another disruption in a project that has already transformed the club’s matchday routine. Barcelona’s aim is for the rebuilt Camp Nou to be fully completed in time for the start of the 2028-29 season.

Socios approve €510 million in new borrowing
On Saturday, Barcelona’s members approved the issue of €510 million in additional debt. Of that total, €300 million has been allocated to the stadium project, while the remaining €210 million is intended to cover further operational borrowing.
The new financing is expected to take the club’s overall debt above €2 billion. Depending on when payments fall due, the figure could rise as high as €2.6 billion.
Espai Barça cost rises sharply
The latest borrowing takes the projected price of Espai Barça to €1.8 billion. That is three times the figure presented when the scheme was first introduced in 2014.
For Barcelona, the calculation is now as stark as the construction cranes above the ground: complete the stadium complex, manage another temporary move and carry a debt burden that has continued to climb as the project moves towards its intended finish line.
