Barcelona head into the first international break of the season with Hansi Flick’s side setting the pace in Spain and carrying momentum into Europe. A 3-1 comeback win away to Sevilla, driven by two goals from Raphinha, made it seven league victories from seven and reinforced Barça’s position at the summit.
The Catalan champions have also opened their Champions League campaign with a 5-1 victory over Feyenoord, meaning Flick’s team have won all eight competitive matches so far. Their league total of 21 points leaves them provisionally six clear of Real Madrid and eight ahead of Atlético Madrid.
Madrid and Atlético meet at the Metropolitano on Sunday at 16:15, with both sides under added pressure after Barcelona’s fast start. Flick’s squad are pursuing a third consecutive league title and have given their two closest challengers an early gap to consider.
A rare perfect opening in Barcelona history
Only three Barcelona sides have previously begun a league season with seven wins from seven: Gerardo Martino’s team in 2013-14, Ernesto Valverde’s side in 2017-18 and Flick’s Barcelona in 2024-25.
Of those earlier teams, only Martino’s side extended the sequence to eight successive league wins. Barcelona will have the chance to match that mark, although not immediately. Domestic football pauses for three weeks during the first international window of the campaign, which includes four national-team fixtures.
Camp Nou return and European trip ahead
Barcelona resume league action on Saturday 10 October, when Getafe visit Spotify Camp Nou at 18:30. It will be the club’s first weekend fixture at the stadium this season.
That same day, Atlético are due to travel to Deportivo Alavés at 16:15, before Real Madrid host Villarreal at 21:00. Barcelona could therefore put further pressure on their rivals before Madrid take the field.
The Champions League follows quickly after the domestic return. Flick’s team will travel to Istanbul to face Galatasaray on Tuesday 13 at 21:00, taking their unbeaten opening run into one of the continent’s most demanding away venues.
