Barcelona left Seville with a fresh concern around Andreas Christensen after the Danish defender was forced off before the hour mark, clutching the back of his left thigh.
The incident came during a challenge with Sevilla forward Robbie Ure. Christensen went to ground after the duel and, while it initially appeared to be a routine collision, he was unable to continue.
Quick facts
- Andreas Christensen was substituted before the 60th minute after a challenge with Robbie Ure.
- The defender pointed to the rear of his left thigh while receiving treatment on the bench.
- Gerard Martín replaced him for Barcelona.
- Christensen had set up Raphinha for Barcelona’s equaliser.
- He will undergo further examinations in Barcelona on Monday.
On the bench, Christensen showed clear discomfort and indicated the affected area to Barcelona’s medical staff. Ice was applied as the 30-year-old sat with his head down, visibly distressed by the problem.
Hansi Flick turned to Gerard Martín as his replacement. The change interrupted an encouraging individual display from Christensen, who had carried the ball forward in the move that ended with Raphinha making it 1-1.
The setback would be particularly unwelcome after a more prominent start to the campaign for the centre-back. He has already accumulated 492 minutes, almost matching the 551 minutes he managed throughout last season.
Any confirmed muscle injury would be separate from Christensen’s previous major absence, a cruciate ligament rupture that kept him out for nearly six months. He has also dealt with Achilles tendon trouble in the past.
Barcelona will assess the defender again once the squad returns to Catalonia. Tests scheduled for Monday are expected to determine the extent of the left-thigh issue and whether Flick will be without another experienced option in defence.
