Yann Bisseck has returned to Inter with a stronger claim on responsibility at the heart of the defence. His time with Germany has added to the confidence built during his fourth season in Milan, and Cristian Chivu is considering the 25-year-old for a central role against Parma.
The decision
Inter must weigh their options in defence for tomorrow’s meeting with Parma. Stones is unavailable through injury, while Akanji arrives after playing every minute of Switzerland’s four recent international matches. That combination has made Bisseck a leading candidate to organise the back line.
The German defender has worked with Chivu on his defensive positioning and reading of situations, while also showing he can operate on the right side of the unit or in the middle when required. The Parma match could offer him the chance to take charge of a department still seeking greater reliability after conceding more goals than desired in the opening weeks.
Bisseck’s international break has not disrupted his preparation. He was called up for Germany’s first two Nations League fixtures and completed the match against Greece, following up on the national-team debut he made at the beginning of 2025. With fewer commitments than some of Inter’s other internationals, he returned to Appiano around a week ago and also featured in the friendly against Lumezzane.
The experience with Germany under Klopp has reinforced a player who has already had to move beyond difficult moments and on-field errors during his Inter spell. Those setbacks are now behind him, with his progress increasingly evident within Chivu’s plans.
Sunday’s picture
Parma represent the next test before Inter enter a demanding run of fixtures leading up to the next international break. Bisseck has started four of the club’s six matches so far, appeared late at Cagliari and remained unused against Udinese. The crowded schedule will place an emphasis on availability as much as performance.
His versatility gives Inter an additional option. At close to two metres tall, Bisseck can provide a target at set pieces and has looked to carry his physical presence into attacking areas when circumstances allow. He scored in the season opener against Monza and had already found the net three times in last season’s league campaign.
Inter see him as part of the longer-term foundation of their defence, particularly with other members of the squad further advanced in age. The club have underlined that view by extending his contract until 2031, a renewal intended both as a vote of confidence and as protection against interest from leading clubs abroad.
