Toronto’s rookie class arrived in Texas ready for a big weekend and fully committed to the part. Before the Blue Jays opened their postseason-relevant series against the Rangers, the club’s first-year players rolled into the road trip dressed in cowboy hats, plaid cutoff shirts, jean shorts and cowboy boots.
A Texas-themed rookie road trip
Brett Bateman, Charles McAdoo, Sean Keys, Kazuma Okamoto and Trey Yesavage were among the Blue Jays rookies taking part in the traditional road-trip treatment. The outfits matched the destination, with Globe Life Field waiting for Toronto and a series carrying plenty of October weight.

Scherzer supplied the idea
The theme came from 42-year-old Toronto right-hander Max Scherzer, with veteran outfielder Myles Straw saying Scherzer had been eager to share the plan a few days earlier.
Straw said the look fit the makeup of this rookie group and expected the photos to make the rounds. “He was excited to show me” the idea, Straw said, adding that it should be especially good for several members of the first-year class. He also figured the media would enjoy the pictures.
Business begins Friday
The costumes will be a quick memory once the series starts. Toronto heads south for a major weekend matchup with Texas, and the standings pressure will be waiting when the Blue Jays take the field Friday night.
