Carlo Ancelotti’s side had drawn the first meeting between the teams 1-1 last Friday, when Raphinha supplied an assist. This time, the forward was on the scoresheet himself, converting a penalty in first-half stoppage time to bring Brazil level after Australia had overturned an early deficit.
Vanderson gave Brazil the perfect start, striking in the third minute, but Australia hit back through Alessandro Circati on 28 minutes before Connor Metcalfe put them ahead five minutes later. Brazil were facing a second frustrating result until Raphinha converted from the spot in the 45th minute to make it 2-2 at the break.
The Seleção returned with greater possession and a firmer grip on the tempo. Bruno Guimarães restored their lead in the 69th minute, before Vinicius Junior made the outcome safe from another penalty ten minutes from time.
The win offers Brazil a measure of recovery after their 2-1 defeat to Norway in the round of 16 at the last World Cup. Ancelotti’s team will now travel to Kolkata, where they are due to face India’s Blue Tigers in another friendly on Saturday at 16:00.
