In Rabat, Brazil’s Under-17 women arrive at the final Group C match of the World Cup with a place in the knockout rounds already secured, but with first place still to settle. Rilany Silva’s South American champions meet Norway at the Mohammed VI Football Complex on Saturday, 24 October, with kick-off scheduled for 12:00 Brasília time.
The news from the club
Brazil are pursuing their first title at the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, which is being staged in Morocco for its 10th edition. The competition began on 17 October and runs until 7 November.
The Brazilian squad travelled to Morocco after winning the South American Under-17 Championship for a sixth time in Paraguay earlier this year. Silva’s side also held preparation camps before the tournament.
Two high-scoring performances have defined Brazil’s group campaign so far. They opened with a 6-2 victory against Canada before drawing 3-3 with Ghana. That point against Ghana confirmed their progress to the round of 16, while victory over Norway would send Brazil through as group winners.
Norway’s route has been less straightforward. Elise Brotangen’s team defeated Ghana 3-0 in their opening fixture, then lost 3-2 to Canada. To finish second and reach the next stage, Norway must produce a better final-day result than Canada.
The Rabat fixture
Brazil are expected to retain the core selection used in each of their previous two matches. Nathy is set to start in goal, with Isa Rech, Elo, Andreyna, Sarah Coelho and Marcela Bontorim forming the likely defensive unit. Carol Melo, Helena and Pepe are expected in midfield, behind Nicolly Manuel and Greise Kelly.
Norway are likely to name Erla Braathen in goal. Vilde Vinje, Isa Lund, Selma Saga and Lina Morch are in line to make up the back line, while Isabella Lepore, Stine Klaeboe-Solemdal and Sofia Mendelin-Norebo could operate through midfield. Hanne Nesse, Maia Melgard and Johanna Fedeler are expected to lead the attack.
