The Brewers are headed back to the World Series for the first time since 1982 after completing a four-game National League Championship Series sweep with a 6-4 comeback win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
Milwaukee trailed by four runs in Game 4, then turned the night around and closed out the Dodgers to claim the National League pennant. The result sends the Brewers to the Fall Classic more than four decades after their previous World Series trip.
A long wait ends
The last time Milwaukee won a league championship, County Stadium erupted after the final out of the 1982 American League Championship Series. Robin Yount fielded Rod Carew’s ground ball at shortstop and threw to first baseman Cecil Cooper, sealing the clincher.
Bob Uecker is often credited with delivering the call that captured that moment, but his broadcast partner Dwayne Mosley was the one on the microphone. With Uecker having gone down to the clubhouse to prepare for the celebration, Mosley told listeners: “Milwaukee, you have a World Series!”
Those words stood as a distant memory for Brewers fans through the years that followed. On Thursday night, Milwaukee earned the chance to say them again.
World Series next
The Brewers will open the World Series in Game 1 on Oct. 23. The game will air on FOX, FOX Deportes and FOX One.
