Cagliari will have to plan the next part of their Serie A season without Alessandro Deiola for at least a month after the midfielder underwent surgery on his left knee.
The decision
Deiola sought medical examinations after suffering discomfort in his left knee, with tests revealing an injury to the lateral meniscus. Surgery was subsequently deemed necessary.
The 30-year-old underwent a selective arthroscopic external meniscectomy at San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro. Professor Massimiliano Salvi performed the operation, which was successful.
After several days of rest, Deiola will begin his rehabilitation programme. Cagliari expect him to be out of action for a minimum of 30 days.
It is an unwelcome absence for a side entering a demanding stage of the campaign, with Deiola now facing a period of recovery before he can return to the group.
