Charlotte will raise Muggsy Bogues’ No. 1 jersey to the rafters on Feb. 11, honoring the point guard whose imprint remains all over the Hornets’ record book.
Bogues, listed as the shortest player in NBA history, will become the latest franchise figure recognized with a retired number. His No. 1 is tied to the original Hornets era and to a long run as the club’s engine at point guard.
Quick facts
- Jersey retirement date: Feb. 11
- Honoree: Muggsy Bogues
- Retired number: No. 1
- Franchise records: assists, steals and minutes played
- Historical note: Bogues is the shortest player in NBA history
The ceremony will recognize more than a memorable undersized career. Bogues still stands first in Charlotte history in assists, steals and minutes, the markers of a floor leader who stayed on the court and controlled the game for the franchise.
For the Hornets, Feb. 11 will be a night for one of the defining players from the team’s early identity — a guard who turned No. 1 into a permanent part of Charlotte basketball history.
