Liverpool’s afternoon fixture between Everton and Chelsea was interrupted by a worrying injury to Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, who was taken to hospital after a heavy collision during the second half at Goodison Park.
Martínez collided with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite around the 65th minute and required lengthy treatment on the pitch. Medical staff worked for close to 10 minutes, administering oxygen before the Argentina international was carried away on a stretcher.
Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford went across to monitor the situation as players from both sides waited anxiously. The concern eased slightly when Martínez raised a thumbs-up to supporters while leaving the field.
Chelsea had not issued a medical update immediately after the match, with Martínez sent to hospital for further examinations following the head injury.
The visitors went on to secure a 2-0 win, Pedro Neto scoring both goals. The result kept Chelsea inside the Premier League’s top four as they left Merseyside with three points, though the goalkeeper’s condition remained the overriding concern after the final whistle.
