Chelsea’s Moisés Caicedo Fined After Driving Without Valid Licence or Insurance

Moisés Caicedo is facing the prospect of losing his driving licence after receiving eight penalty points and a €1,708 fine for driving without valid licence and insurance cover near Chelsea’s Cobham training ground.

The Chelsea midfielder was stopped by authorities in Surrey in April 2025 while behind the wheel of an Audi valued at more than €189,000. The vehicle was subsequently seized, with the club treating the incident as a personal matter.

Caicedo, for whom Chelsea paid 133 million in 2023, was punished following an appearance at Crawley Magistrates’ Court. The Ecuador international is understood to earn around €295,000 per week at Stamford Bridge, but the more immediate concern is the state of his licence.

Under British rules, a driver who collects 12 penalty points within a three-year period is normally banned from driving for six months. Caicedo’s eight points leave little room for another costly mistake on the road.

Holders of an international driving licence may use it in Great Britain for up to 12 months, though the court found that Caicedo did not have valid permission or insurance when he was stopped close to the club’s Surrey base.
