Palmer said conversations with Chelsea’s hierarchy and head coach Xabi Alonso had convinced him that extending his stay was the natural decision.
“The owners, sporting directors and, of course, the coach gave me a great deal of confidence,” Palmer said. “That made signing the new contract an obvious step.”
Chelsea return to league action against Bournemouth on Saturday, seeking a result that would improve their position after five rounds of the Premier League season.
