Lazio Face Monza Without Rovella, Marusic, Gudmundsson and Cancellieri

Lazio return to the league programme against Monza with a growing injury list, a reminder that their strong start has been built while the squad has already been asked to absorb several absences. Gennaro Gattuso will be without Albert Gudmundsson, Matteo Cancellieri, Nicolò Rovella and Adam Marusic for the first match after the international break.

Quick facts

  • Gudmundsson suffered a shoulder dislocation while with Iceland.
  • Cancellieri was injured at the beginning of the international break.
  • Rovella is recovering from a calf injury and will undergo a final scan this week.
  • Marusic will have further instrumental examinations next week.
  • None of the four players will be available against Monza.

The immediate concern is not only the number of missing players, but the different stages of recovery involved. Lazio’s medical staff are managing four separate cases, with no indication that any of them will be rushed back for the Monza fixture.

Rovella has continued his rehabilitation and athletic reconditioning programme, increasing both the intensity and volume of his work. The midfielder’s return to group training will depend on the outcome of a final instrumental assessment scheduled for this week.

Marusic is also progressing through a recovery programme, with his workloads being raised gradually. Lazio said the next stage will be determined by his clinical and functional response, as well as the results of examinations planned for next week.

Gudmundsson’s absence follows the shoulder injury sustained on international duty with Iceland. He remains in a brace and is continuing treatment and rehabilitation under the regular supervision of the club’s medical department.

Cancellieri, meanwhile, is following an individual programme after picking up his problem early in the break. His athletic work is being reintroduced progressively, subject to how the affected area responds in the coming days.

For Lazio, the Monza match now becomes another test of continuity rather than a simple return from international football. The early-season momentum remains intact, but Gattuso must again shape his selection around a group still working towards full availability.
