Inter left the Olimpico with a point and a clear internal message from Cristian Chivu: the second half against Roma showed the level he expects, while the first half will be addressed away from public view.
The decision
Chivu declined to discuss the details of Inter’s troubled opening period after the draw in Rome, saying that his assessment had already been delivered to the players at half-time and would remain within the dressing room.
He did, however, identify the broader issue. Inter must improve in the phase without possession and become sharper at reading opponents from the outset. The coach said the squad understood what had been missing in the first half and that the work now is to correct those shortcomings rather than expose them publicly.
The response after the interval gave Chivu encouragement. He praised Inter’s attitude, determination, quality and personality in the second half, describing it as a strong performance against a major opponent. In his view, the team produced more than it had at the beginning of the season, even if there are still details to refine.
“We have to understand the opponent better,” Chivu said. “That is part of the process: you learn and keep moving forward.”
He also played down a personal statistical milestone after becoming Inter’s quickest coach to reach 100 points, insisting that numbers do not alter the daily task of building the side.

The point at the Olimpico takes Inter to 13 points after an early stretch that has included meetings with Napoli and Roma. Chivu considered that return positive, particularly compared with the club’s position at the equivalent stage last season, while stressing that the campaign remains long.
For Inter, the draw was valuable not simply because of the venue but because of the recovery within the match. A difficult first half was followed by a performance of greater authority, leaving Chivu with evidence of progress as well as a reminder that his side cannot afford slow starts in the leading contests of the championship.
Chivu also offered condolences following the death of Mazzola, calling him an icon and a true legend, and sending sympathy to his family.
