Como left Florence with a 3-1 victory over Fiorentina on Sunday, turning a strong first-half spell into a result that will carry weight beyond the Artemio Franchi. Mattia Liberali and Nico Paz put the visitors two ahead, Fiorentina found a response through Marin Pongracic, but Tasos Douvikas settled the contest on the counter after the interval.
The decision
The match was shaped by Como’s ability to strike when Fiorentina were unable to convert their own early pressure. The home side created openings through Pote, Alieu Njie and Mateo Pellegrino, while Nicolò Fagioli also had an effort blocked, but Como increasingly found room to threaten around the Fiorentina area.
Trevoh Chalobah’s afternoon ended early through injury, with Jacobo Ramón replacing him in the 14th minute. Como nevertheless continued to create chances: David de Gea saved attempts from Lucas da Cunha and Douvikas, while Nico Paz and Maxence Caqueret also went close.
The breakthrough came on 32 minutes. Caqueret supplied Liberali, who finished low from the right side of the penalty area. Four minutes later, Como doubled their advantage when Álex Valle crossed for Nico Paz, whose header found the top-left corner.
Fiorentina did not allow the game to drift away before the break. Pongracic scored from a corner in the 42nd minute to reduce the deficit, after a close-range Viery header had been blocked. There was then a further moment of frustration in added time, when Pongracic had another goal ruled out following a VAR review for offside.
Como made a change at half-time, bringing on Kaiki for Valle, and kept their composure through a second period in which Fiorentina carried the initiative. Njie sent an early effort narrowly wide, while Fagioli later tested Jean Butez twice from outside the area.
The decisive third goal arrived in the 56th minute. Fiorentina had pushed forward, but Como broke through Nico Paz and Douvikas finished from the middle of the box. It was the kind of clean transition that left the hosts with too much to recover.
Fiorentina introduced Wilfried Gnonto, Valde, Dodô, Marco Brescianini and Beto as they searched for a route back. Njie headed against the left post in the 75th minute, and Pongracic headed wide from a late corner, but Butez and the Como defence held firm.
Como also freshened their side, with Máximo Perrone replacing Nico Paz, and Samuele Ricci and Willy Kambwala arriving for Lucas da Cunha and Liberali. Liberali had earlier sent a late attempt wide, while Luis Milla drew a low save from Fiorentina’s goalkeeper.
Sunday’s picture
The result came in Serie A’s seventh round, played at 15:00 on 18 October 2026. Fiorentina’s afternoon contained enough attacking moments to suggest a different scoreline was possible, particularly after Pongracic’s goal brought them back into the match. But the cancelled equaliser before half-time and Douvikas’ counter-attacking finish after the restart left Como in command of the scoreboard.
There were cautions for Álex Valle, Nico Paz and Jacobo Ramón of Como, while Fiorentina’s Cher Ndour and Franco Mastantuono were also booked. Ndour required treatment during the first half but continued before being substituted in the 79th minute.
For Como, the three goals reflected a composed away performance: Liberali supplied the first incision, Nico Paz added a goal and an assist, and Douvikas delivered the final blow. Fiorentina, after a difficult home defeat, must now turn their possession and pressure into points rather than near misses.
