Portugal’s international window has been overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo’s dispute with new national-team coach Jorge Jesus, with the forward leaving the camp after their disagreement and then setting out his version of events in a lengthy public statement.
Ronaldo’s message addressed the circumstances of his departure and referred to a letter he said Jesus had declined to read during a press conference. The document has prompted extensive debate around the player, who remains one of the most closely watched figures in the international game.
A row that moved beyond the Portugal camp
The argument has also spilled into English football media, where Piers Morgan — a long-standing friend and vocal supporter of Ronaldo — has repeatedly argued that the Portugal captain has not been treated with sufficient respect.
Morgan’s defence of the player led to a sharp exchange with broadcaster Simon Jordan, who accused him of being excessively deferential to Ronaldo. The pair later returned to the subject during another discussion on talkSPORT.
Ronaldo’s response to Simon Jordan
On Wednesday evening, Morgan brought the dispute to Football Uncensored while appearing alongside Jason Cundy. He said Ronaldo had sent him a text responding to Jordan’s criticism.
Reading the message aloud, Morgan quoted Ronaldo as saying: “That blond guy… tell him to stop using Botox. He looks like an apple.”
Cundy laughed as Morgan turned the text into a joking bulletin, calling Jordan “a blond apple with a suspiciously smooth face.”
For Portugal, the episode leaves an uncomfortable off-field backdrop to the national side’s work under Jesus, while Ronaldo’s statement and subsequent reaction have ensured the disagreement remains firmly in public view.
