Max Dowman Earns Three Guinness World Records at 16

At 16, Max Dowman is already collecting records that normally belong to football’s established names. Arsenal’s teenage forward has received three official Guinness World Records certificates after becoming the youngest player to appear in the Premier League and Champions League, as well as the youngest scorer in English top-flight history.

The move

Born on 31 December 2009, Dowman set his scoring record against Everton on 14 March, finding the net at the age of 16 years and 73 days.

Introduced in the 74th minute of a match still without a breakthrough, the England youth international made the decisive impact. His goal ended the deadlock and underlined the scale of Arsenal’s faith in him.

Mikel Arteta said after the performance that it was highly unusual to see a player achieve what Dowman had done in such a significant moment.

The Guinness recognition covers three landmarks in his rapid rise:

  • Youngest player to feature in the Premier League
  • Youngest player to play in the Champions League
  • Youngest goalscorer in the history of the English championship

The French season around it

Dowman had already caught the eye in youth tournaments held in France, while his displays in the UEFA Youth League also strengthened his reputation beyond England.

His pace, physical power and composure have stood out at academy level, but the speed of his first-team progression has surprised even those who knew his potential closely.

Des Ryan, formerly an academy coach at Arsenal, said those around the player expected him eventually to reach Premier League level. What they had not anticipated was that he would do so at such a young age.

For the French youth-football circuit, where Dowman had been noticed before his senior breakthrough, the new records offer another reminder of how quickly a tournament prospect can become a player on the European stage.
