Cristiano Ronaldo Faces Urgent Portugal Disciplinary Proceedings

Copenhagen has become the unlikely setting for a disciplinary case involving Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal, after the forward left the national-team camp and later confronted head coach Jorge Jesus.

The Portuguese Football Federation’s Disciplinary Council has opened proceedings against Ronaldo, with the matter ordered to move on an urgent basis. He is officially under a provisional suspension while the investigation continues.

Quick facts

  • The case concerns Ronaldo’s departure from Portugal’s camp in Copenhagen.
  • It also covers his subsequent confrontation with coach Jorge Jesus.
  • The reported events were filed with the federation on 7 October 2026.
  • Disciplinary action was formally initiated on 9 October 2026.
  • The file reached the FPF Disciplinary Investigation Committee on 10 October 2026.

The federation said its non-professional section began the process to assess whether the allegations carry disciplinary consequences. Ronaldo had already been subject to an automatic preventive suspension before the formal opening of the case.

Once the procedure was launched, the authorities imposed an additional non-automatic preventive suspension and classified the file as urgent. The decision leaves Ronaldo unavailable pending the next stages of the inquiry.
