Cristiano Ronaldo Faces Portugal Suspension Over Early Camp Exit

Cristiano Ronaldo has been placed under a provisional suspension by the Portuguese Football Federation while disciplinary proceedings examine his early departure from the national-team camp earlier this month.

The federation’s disciplinary council confirmed on Saturday that it had opened an investigation into the forward. The case concerns Ronaldo leaving Portugal’s squad gathering on 1 October during the latest international break.

Urgent disciplinary procedure opened

The disciplinary body said the inquiry will assess whether the circumstances reported on 7 October 2026 could lead to sporting disciplinary action.

A non-automatic preventive suspension has been imposed on Ronaldo while the investigation continues. The federation has also ruled that the matter should be handled urgently.

The measure is temporary and does not amount to a final punishment. Ronaldo will remain suspended until the procedure reaches its conclusion, when the disciplinary council could decide whether any further sanction is warranted.

Decision still to come

No final verdict, length of suspension or additional penalty has yet been announced. The investigation will now establish the facts surrounding Ronaldo’s departure from the Portugal camp and determine its possible disciplinary consequences.
