In Santa Ana, where Club Deportivo FAS carries the weight of Salvadoran football history, Dani Alves left a small but conspicuous mark during a weekend visit to El Salvador. The former Brazil international posed in the club’s shirt, signed it and offered a public tribute to the side known as the Tigers.
Alves wrote on the jersey: “For the best team in El Salvador. Dani Alves.” FAS later circulated the image on its official X account, answering in Portuguese with a greeting to the Brazilian and insisting that the claim was true.

The visit began on Friday and ran through a sporting programme that extended beyond football. On Saturday, Alves appeared at the prize-giving ceremony for a youth competition in Soyapango. A day later, he joined the organised cycling event and also watched the Davis Cup matches between El Salvador and Portugal.
For FAS, the photograph connected one of Central America’s most decorated clubs with a player whose career took him through leading European institutions. Alves won major honours with Barcelona, Juventus and PSG, as well as trophies for Brazil, before his final club spell at Pumas UNAM.
Pumas terminated his contract in January 2023 after Alves was detained in Spain in connection with an accusation of sexual assault. He spent more than a year in pre-trial detention.
In February 2024, Alves received a prison sentence of four and a half years. The following month, he was granted provisional release after posting €1 million bail while the appeals process continued.
Since ending his professional playing career, Alves has appeared in public less frequently than during his years at the top of the game. His Salvadoran visit brought him back into view, first through a full itinerary of sporting engagements and then through a FAS shirt carrying a message for Santa Ana’s club.
