In the southern Madrid suburb of Getafe, a familiar figure from Spain’s grandest stage has found his next address. Dani Carvajal has joined Getafe on a contract running until 30 June 2027, returning to league action after leaving Real Madrid at the end of June.
The news from the club
The 34-year-old right-back arrives as a free agent following the close of a 13-season spell in Real Madrid’s first team. He made 451 appearances for the club and collected 27 trophies, including six UEFA Champions League titles.
Getafe’s move was completed after financial restrictions complicated the player’s LaLiga registration. The club had insufficient room within its salary limit, leading president Ángel Torres to provide a personal guarantee covering the amount required by the competition’s economic controls.
Carvajal has also accepted a substantial reduction in pay to remain in Spain’s top division. His Getafe salary is set to be below €1 million, approximately 90 per cent lower than his previous earnings at Real Madrid.
The signing answers José Bordalás’s wish to add experience and depth on the right side of his squad. Carvajal brings not only his club record but also international honours, having won the 2024 European Championship and the 2023 Nations League with Spain.
The first date in Getafe
Carvajal could make his debut on Monday, 19 October, when Getafe host Rayo Vallecano in LaLiga. Kick-off is scheduled for 16:00 Brasília time.
Although Getafe are involved in the Conference League, the defender cannot feature during the competition’s league phase. The registration deadline has passed, meaning he could only be added for the knockout rounds if the Madrid club progress.
