Macdonald said Darnold’s status will be monitored daily and reassessed next week, while stressing that the quarterback will not be available this weekend.

Drew Lock will make the start for Seattle on the road against Arizona. Rookie Jalen Milroe will be the No. 2 quarterback behind Lock.

Darnold was hurt early in Seattle’s season-opening victory over the New England Patriots. The injury occurred after he was brought down on a third-down sack just five offensive plays into the game. He walked off while favoring the injury and did not return.

The Seahawks described the issue as an unusual soft-tissue injury involving Darnold’s glute. There was initial concern that he may have damaged his hip, but the club later clarified that his hip joint was unaffected.

Seattle has not set a definite timetable for Darnold’s return. Still, Macdonald’s decision not to use injured reserve leaves open the possibility of a relatively short absence and a week-to-week recovery plan.

Lock entered against New England and helped Seattle rally for a win after Darnold’s departure. He now gets the opportunity to carry that momentum into his first start of the season.
