In Montevideo, Edgardo “Chino” Lasalvia has moved from the business of representing footballers towards a bid to lead Peñarol, the club he has long supported. The agent of Botafogo full-back Mateo Ponte announced on Wednesday that he is ending his career in player representation to stand for the Peñarol presidency.

Lasalvia will run alongside Lista 14 CAP, presenting his candidacy as a project for a more united and transparent Peñarol, with greater attention paid to the club’s members and a renewed ambition to be influential on and off the pitch.
In his announcement, Lasalvia said the decision marked one of the defining moments of his life. He described leaving a professional chapter devoted to football representation in order to take on a challenge driven by his affection for Peñarol, promising responsibility, commitment and conviction in the campaign.
“We believe in a Peñarol that is united, competitive, transparent and worthy of its history,” he said. “It must listen to its members and become a reference point again, both on the field and beyond it.”
Lasalvia owns a prominent Montevideo-based agency and has been a well-known figure in Uruguay’s transfer market. His current clients include Uruguay international Brian Rodríguez, while he previously represented Flamengo defender Guillermo Varela.
His past work has also included spells representing Facundo Pellistri, formerly of Manchester United, Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde and Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez.
The prospective candidate’s connection with Peñarol has not been limited to public declarations of support. Before the 2024 Copa Libertadores meeting between Botafogo and Peñarol in Rio de Janeiro, he was among the visiting supporters detained by police during disorder involving fans of the two clubs.
