Edin Terzic is back in management after a two-year break, taking charge of Athletic Club at the start of the season. The 43-year-old former Borussia Dortmund coach has returned convinced by the challenge in Bilbao.
Terzic used the period after his first senior head-coach role at Dortmund to prepare for his next job. While many clubs were using the October international window for time away, he remained at Athletic’s training ground, working from his office in coaching gear.
The Athletic post brings distinctive conditions. The club’s identity and recruitment model are central to the job, while Terzic also faces the competitive demands of La Liga.
He has discussed the move and the Spanish game with experienced colleagues. Jupp Heynckes offered him insight into Athletic, while Hansi Flick and Jürgen Klopp have also been among the coaches with whom Terzic has exchanged views.
After two years outside the dugout, Terzic has begun a new chapter in Bilbao with clear energy for the work ahead.
