In the Midlands, Aston Villa recovered from an early setback to beat Nottingham Forest 3-1, with Emiliano Martínez playing a decisive role in the home side’s turnaround.
The Argentina goalkeeper started for Villa and produced important interventions as the match shifted in his team’s favour. Forest, travelling with Nicolás Domínguez among their options, did not use the Argentine midfielder from the bench.
For Martínez, it was another influential afternoon in a cross-border season that continues to place Argentina’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper at the centre of Villa’s ambitions. Forest left without a result despite taking part in a game that initially appeared to be moving their way.
