Former Lyon Star Rayan Cherki Scores in Manchester City Rout of Liverpool

Under the Premier League lights, Rayan Cherki put the finishing touch to Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday with a goal built on quick thinking and a flash of individual balance.

The Ligue 1 news

The France international, formerly of Lyon, struck City’s third goal in the 78th minute to cap a commanding victory over Liverpool.

Cherki’s finish came at the end of a sharp collective move. Eliott Anderson played the ball towards him just outside the penalty area, but Cherki allowed it to run through his legs for Josko Gvardiol.

The Croatian defender returned it with a backheel into Cherki’s path. The Frenchman then beat Jeremie Frimpong with a rapid feint, sending the defender off balance before applying the finish.

It was another decisive contribution from Cherki during his Premier League season with Manchester City, and a reminder of the inventive attacking quality that first made him one of Ligue 1’s most closely watched young talents.
