Lille will have to navigate three decisive European nights without Ethan Mbappé after UEFA imposed a three-match suspension on the forward for his dismissal against Real Betis in the opening round of the Champions League.
Three-match ban after Natan incident
UEFA judged Mbappé’s challenge on Betis defender Natan as an act of aggression, ruling him out of Lille’s next three continental fixtures.

The Lille winger struck Natan in the face with an elbow, leaving his side down to 10 men. Bulgarian referee Georgi Kabakov did not initially spot the offence, but was instructed to review it by VAR before producing a red card.
A costly end to a promising display
Until the sending-off, Mbappé had made a useful contribution from the right flank. He created Lille’s opening goal for Ueda and completed two of his three dribble attempts, but his loss of discipline changed the shape of the closing stages.
Betis had entered half-time 2-1 behind, only to overturn the contest in a four-minute burst. Marc Bartra scored twice and Parrott added the other goal as the Spanish side completed a 3-2 comeback.
Lille face a harder European week
The sanction removes Mbappé from a demanding sequence of Champions League fixtures and deprives Lille of an attacking option who had already shown his value in the opening match.
