The 30-year-old Spain midfielder said he had won more trophies than any other player during the season, reflecting his role in a landmark year for both PSG and the national team. “Clearly, I am the player who has collected the most titles this season,” Ruiz said.
Ruiz has been an important figure whenever fit, although a serious injury has damaged his prospects of receiving a major individual prize. He declined to promote his own candidacy, insisting that supporters and observers were better placed to decide whether his achievements merit recognition.
“I would rather people made that case,” he said. “Everyone knows which trophies I have won this season, but I will leave the campaign to others.”
