Fabian Ruiz Stars as PSG Beat Barcelona 4-2 in Champions League Thriller

Paris Saint-Germain found their European rhythm under the Parc des Princes lights, beating Barcelona 4-2 in a breathless Champions League contest shaped by injury blows, sharp finishing and a commanding midfield display from Fabian Ruiz.

Fabian capped an influential evening with PSG’s fourth goal late on, while Vitinha’s strike on 81 minutes gave Paris a crucial cushion after Barcelona had twice threatened to turn the match. Désiré Doué opened the scoring with a sudden effort that caught Joan Garcia off guard, and Lucas Hernandez headed in PSG’s other goal after the interval.

Fabian Ruiz and Vitinha take control

Fabian Ruiz was at the centre of PSG’s strongest passages, repeatedly finding the right angles with his distribution and making intelligent movements between Barcelona’s lines. His late finish for 4-2 completed a performance in which he was indispensable.

Vitinha also produced one of his best displays of the season, combining energy, accuracy and physical authority. His goal was the standout technical moment of the night, while his pass in the build-up to a Ferran Torres chance split the Barcelona defence. The Portugal midfielder also left Dani Olmo needing treatment after a forceful shoulder challenge.

Doué continued his excellent run of form in major fixtures. His early goal set PSG on their way, before he created a clear opening for Achraf Hakimi in the 51st minute and delivered the corner from which Hernandez scored. João Neves set the tone in the opening stages with aggressive pressing and several recoveries, then handled more defensive responsibilities effectively after the break.

Hernandez answers Luis Enrique’s selection call

Luis Enrique’s decision at left-back proved decisive. Hernandez was preferred to Lucas Digne for the task of containing Lamine Yamal and brought his usual aggression to the contest. He rose to head PSG’s third goal in the 72nd minute, drawing a loud response from the home crowd before being replaced by Warren Zaïre-Emery six minutes later.

Zaïre-Emery was immediately tested by Yamal, who beat him shortly after entering the game. Barcelona’s teenager later scored from a tight angle in the 79th minute, adding to Espart’s 55th-minute goal and ensuring the visitors remained alive deep into the match.

Willian Pacho delivered another demanding defensive performance, including a crucial intervention against Fermin Lopez in the 40th minute. The Ecuador international also stepped high from the back on several occasions, although he appeared uncertain during Barcelona’s first equaliser.

Marquinhos made important defensive contributions, including an intervention against Gordon, but the PSG captain was forced off injured in the 58th minute. Ilya Zabarnyi took his place.

Safonov stands firm as injuries interrupt Paris

Matvey Safonov conceded twice but made several key saves to protect PSG’s advantage. The goalkeeper denied Raphinha in the 20th minute, stopped Fermin Lopez in a one-on-one situation shortly before half-time and kept out Gavi in the 61st minute. He could do little against Espart’s shot or Yamal’s narrow-angle finish.

PSG lost Ousmane Dembélé as early as the 19th minute when the forward suffered a left-thigh injury after a run. He had already tested the Barcelona goalkeeper with a shot on target before Ferran Torres replaced him.

Torres quickly became involved, but Joan Garcia stopped him twice in quick succession, in the 25th and 28th minutes. He later struck the post with a major chance in the 71st minute and was also denied what could have been an assist when a Hakimi cross was not converted.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, making his first Champions League start of the season, hit the post after only two minutes and forced another save from Garcia before half-time. The Georgian winger remained a persistent threat and also tracked back to make a vital clearance against Gordon in the 10th minute. His evening ended with an injury in the 58th minute, with Akliouche coming on.

Hakimi grew into the match after Barcelona created much of their first-half danger down his flank. The Moroccan was unable to beat Garcia when through on goal early in the second half, but he later supplied Fabian for PSG’s final goal and was involved in another dangerous delivery towards Torres.

The result underlined Luis Enrique’s successful use of his squad on the European stage. Hernandez justified his selection with a goal and a disciplined display, while Kvaratskhelia’s inclusion brought early attacking menace before injury cut short his night.
