Como will be without Moise Kean for around seven to 10 days after the forward returned from international duty carrying the effects of a heavy knock suffered against Belgium, leaving Cesc Fabregas frustrated on the eve of the meeting with Roma.
The Como coach said the injury itself was a concern, but he also questioned the handling of communication between the Italian Football Federation and the club. Fabregas pointed to Kean’s involvement against France, when the striker completed the full 90 minutes despite already having an issue.
“He will be out for a week or 10 days,” Fabregas said. “He took a significant blow against Belgium. Communication between the federation and the club, as happens with everyone, could be improved. He played 90 minutes against France while injured. Now, when he is back, he is back.”
A selection question for Como
Kean’s absence comes at an awkward point for Como as they prepare for Roma, with Fabregas needing to assess his attacking options without the Italian centre-forward.
The coach also indicated that his own view of Kean’s best partnership differs from that of Italy coach Roberto Mancini, who had used him alongside Pio Esposito during the international matches.
Fabregas revealed that he had spoken with Mancini about a possible pairing between Kean and Tasos Douvikas. The national-team coach appeared open to the idea, but Como’s manager does not currently see it as the right solution.
“I spoke to the Italy coach about Moise with Douvikas,” Fabregas said. “He made me understand that he could see that partnership, but I do not see it at the moment.”
For Como, the immediate issue is recovery rather than debate over combinations. Kean is expected to miss only a short spell, but Fabregas wants the forward returned to full fitness before he is considered again.
